Pre Production is definitely the most important part of the filmmaking process. It is critical that every aspect of the production is thought out and psychoanalysed, as doing so will save you massive amounts of time and money. It will also insure that the filmmaking process is as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
There are so many things to take into consideration. For example the:
- Writing the script
- Locking the script
- Shotlists
- Storyboarding
- Recce
- Casting
- Getting a crew
- Hosting the auditions
- Compiling a kit list
- Risk assessments
- Sound engineering
- Getting/making the props
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! So an absolute vital thing to do right from the outset, is to make a pre production schedule. Below I have posted a picture of the pre production schedule that I have put together for the 3 minute short film that I'm working on.
