- What are young people interested in?
Young people today are interested in fashion and trends. Wether that is the latest phones or the latest clothes. On the whole, they like bright colours, modern, and minimalistic design styles. This question however is extremely vague as what young persons are interested in varies great from demographic to demographic.
- How can these interests be used to get young people to vote?
We can use this knowledge to create political marketing campaigns that are geared towards the youth, by incorporating bright colours, and design styles that appeal to them.
- How can the act of voting in the election be made interesting?
Voting can be made interesting by integrating social networking. Maybe by using your social networking account to vote. Or having the polls updated live on these social networks. Even by having the polling office interact with voters over social networking.
- Which media formats would work for the campaign?
I think posters, flyers and social networking adverts would work best. This is because if done properly, teenagers will want to read the posters and flyers due to its aesthetic appeal. Also the vast majority of teenagers use social networks, and would prefer to view information from there. You cannot wait for them to come to the advert, you have to bring the advert to them, which is why I think social networking campaigns will be super effective.
- What would the style, content and information be like?
The style, as stated earlier, would be modern. The content will be minimal as most teenagers can't be bothered to read big chunks of text. Which is why it should be spread out over the document, preferably in bullet-points. The information will be straightforward, to the point and concise. There will be a QR Code and a link to a website should the reader wish to learn more about the campaign.
- How would I go about researching this to find out.
Audience Questionnaire - To be done at the beginning to get basic information about who’s answering the questionnaire and what their views and opinions are on politics and design concepts. I will compile a list of close and open ended questions based on my research topic and distribute them throughout my college and social circle. In addition to that, I will post an online questionnaire on various social networks such as facebook, twitter, and blogger.
Textual Analysis - Based on a pre-existing and successful multi-page documents. This will allow me to understand why the designer chose to do what he/she did in the document. Why colours, fonts, styles, etc were used. I will be able to incorporate this information into my work, and inspire my work. The textual analysis will consist of dissection and break down of each individual aspect of a particular multi-page document. From the graphic design style used to the fonts used.
Interviews - This will be conducted one-on-one with the interviewee. This method of research will help by extracting crucial information on my research topic. The information I plan on receiving will be very specific and personal. I will schedule them at specific times with a wide demographic of college students. This will be done towards the end of my assignment.
- What do people at college currently think of politics/voting?
Currently, there is very little interest on the subject of voting and politics. From college students, and any other average young person alike. A lot of them are fed up with the lies of the politicians. Some also do not vote due to religious convictions.
- How to get young people interested in politics/voting?
The best and quickest way, would be to get a highly acclaimed celebrity who is big in today's pop culture atmosphere. Then getting that celebrity to encourage teenagers to vote. That plan is fool-proof. The harder, more long and drawn out way is to use modern communication outlets, such as facebook, twitter, etc, to conduct a pro-voting campaign. Also this campaign can be shown over television, the radio and in teen magazines.
- What media could you create to promote voting?
I could create various digital and physical posters that promote voting to pin up around the college and other youth-associated institutions, and online over various popular social networks. I could also design and print A6 hand-outs. As well as a moving image video to spread online, as well as on television.
